Job Responsibilities:
Ensure the quality and integrity of all tissue specimens received.
Correctly label and process all specimens.
Interpret the results of special studies.
Fix and embed tissue specimens in paraffin.
Section paraffin blocks using a microtome.
May perform frozen sections of tissue.
May perform other specialized histologic procedures.
Stain tissue sections using a variety of techniques.
Mount slides and coverslip them manually or using automated systems.
Organize and distribute slides to pathologists.
Keep accurate records of all specimens and slides.
Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
Orient and train new staff.
Participate in continuing education and training.
Follow all safety and quality assurance protocols.
Qualifications:
A.S., B.S. or B.A. in a biological or chemical science and/or completion of a NAACLS accredited histology technician training program highly desired
2-3 years of experience as a histology technician
HT (ASCP) certification required HTL(ASCP) highly desired
