Microbiology Supervisor

Indianapolis $90,000 - $110,000 Permanent

Job Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of microbiologists and technicians, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure their professional growth and performance.
  • Microbiological Testing: Oversee and review microbiological testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products, ensuring testing is conducted following established protocols and GMP standards.
  • Data Analysis: Review and validate microbiological data, analyze results, and provide interpretations and recommendations for the team and management.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that all microbiological testing procedures and results meet stringent quality control standards and comply with GMP regulations. Address any non-conformities and deviations.
  • Aseptic Techniques: Maintain and ensure the proper operation of aseptic environments, such as laminar flow hoods and isolators, to prevent contamination during microbiological testing.
  • Environmental Monitoring: Oversee routine environmental monitoring of controlled areas, including air and surface sampling, to maintain a controlled and clean work environment.
  • Method Development: Collaborate with the team to develop, validate, and optimize microbiological testing methods, staying up-to-date with industry advancements and techniques.
  • Documentation: Ensure meticulous record-keeping of all microbiological testing procedures, results, and deviations, with a focus on compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Supervise the calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about and ensure compliance with industry-specific regulations, guidelines, and GMP requirements, and participate in audits and inspections.
  • Troubleshooting: Oversee the identification and resolution of issues related to microbiological testing, equipment, or processes, as well as deviations in test results.
  • Training and Development: Provide training, mentorship, and guidance to team members, fostering their professional growth and knowledge of microbiological techniques and safety protocols.
  • Research and Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive research and development projects aimed at improving methods, developing new assays, and advancing scientific capabilities.
  • Report Generation: Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing microbiological findings, analysis, and recommendations for internal use and external regulatory agencies.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with other departments, including quality assurance, research and development, and production, to ensure product safety and quality.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement, efficiency enhancement, and cost reduction in microbiological testing and related processes.
  • Safety: Promote and enforce a culture of laboratory safety, ensuring that all safety protocols are adhered to.
  • Project Management: Manage and prioritize multiple projects and assignments within the Microbiology department, ensuring that objectives and deadlines are met.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Microbiology, Biology, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of GMP experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of microbiological techniques, aseptic practices, and laboratory equipment.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and teamwork abilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards, particularly GMP.
